    Why Alternative Provision in Northamptonshire

Demand for SEND support across North and West Northamptonshire is rising rapidly, EHCP timeliness is under significant pressure, and outcomes for pupils with SEND remain below national benchmarks in key areas.

    What This Means

    Why high-quality Alternative Provision matters

The evidence points to a clear regional need — and to the value Pathway AcademyZone brings as a specialist AP provider in Northants.

    Meets rising demand

EHCP growth exceeds national rates in both authorities. Local, structured AP capacity is essential to relieve system pressure.

    Targets the priority needs

Autism, SLCN and SEMH dominate the need profile. Our small-group, trauma-informed model is designed around exactly this profile.

    Reduces suspensions & exclusions

With SEND suspension rates above national in Northants, purposeful AP offers a constructive alternative to repeated sanctions.

    Bridges the outcomes gap

SEND attainment in North Northants lags national at phonics, KS2 and Attainment 8. Focused AP can close key gaps and re-engage learners.

    Supports EHCP delivery under strain

With 20-week compliance under severe pressure, AP partners help schools and the LA deliver provision that plans specify.

    Strengthens post-16 progression

Sustaining low SEND NEET rates depends on robust vocational and life-skills pathways — a core part of what we offer.
